Commercial and Domestic Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) are intended to inform potential buyers, tenants and property owners about the energy performance of their property, so that they can consider energy efficiency as part of their personal, investment or business decisions.

Commercial and Domestic EPCs are required for newly let or sold buildings. Certificates grade building energy performance and carbon dioxide emission on a scale of A-G, similar to the system used for white goods.

An EPC will measure the energy performance of a building based on the building itself (the fabric) and its services (such as heating, ventilation and lighting) and can be produced at point of sale, lease or lease renewal.

It is accompanied by a Report, which provides recommendations on how the energy performance of the building could be enhanced.
