Solar Hot Water

Solar hot water systems use heat from the sun to work alongside your conventional water heating. Pre heated water from the system flows into the domestic hot water system with a subsequent reduction in energy required to heat the water to the required temperature for washing, bathing and central heating. The technology is tried and tested with a large choice of equipment to suit all types of domestic needs.

Solar hot water can provide around a third of the average home’s domestic hot water requirements not only saving you money but also reducing your family’s impact on carbon emissions.

What best suits your needs depends on a range of factors, including the available area of roof, your existing water heating system (for instance some types of combi boilers aren't suitable for use with solar hot water systems) and your budget. You may also need space for a hot water cylinder to store the water from the system in readiness for use within the house.

Solar water heating can also be used to provide heat for both small and larger areas such as such as kitchens, bathrooms, swimming pools and saunas.

TESC Ltd has the knowledge and experience to help you make the right decision with regard to solar hot water and to ensure that you get the maximum benefit for your investment in your home.

Planning Regulations for solar hot water

In England current legislation has removed the requirements for planning permission for most solar energy installations. Roof mounted and stand-alone systems can now be installed in most dwellings, as long as they respect certain size criteria. Exceptions apply for Listed Buildings, and buildings in Conservation Areas and World Heritage Sites.

In Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, the devolved governments are currently all considering changes to their legislation on permitted developments, to facilitate installations of microgeneration technologies.
